Project Assistant at FREE RANGE

Join the Old Truman Brewery’s Events team working on in house projects. The OTB site is an arts and media quarter home to exhibition and events spaces, creative businesses, independent retail, markets, bars and restaurants.

The key focus of the Project Assistant role is Free Range, the Old Truman Brewery’s annual season of graduate art & design exhibitions. Free Range showcases the UK’s most innovative young artists, photographers and designers and is a key diary feature for the creative industry. The event runs for 6 weeks, with more than 3,000 exhibitors in 2016. The shows provide a vital platform for emerging creatives, facilitating their next steps beyond education.

The Free Range team work year round to book exhibition spaces, manage bookings and build partnerships. Free Range is run by a small, dedicated team with the role encompassing many aspects of event management. We are looking for a confident, hands on person with exceptional organisational skills and a passion for emerging creatives. We are willing to consider recent graduates who have developed relevant skills and experience during their time at university.

TITLE Free Range Project Assistant
CONTRACT full time permanent, office hours 9am – 6pm Monday to Friday. On occasion you will be asked to work outside of office hours, for example during the Free Range season
HOLIDAY 28 days paid holiday, 8 of which are bank holidays (should be 5 days per quarter, unless agreed in advance). This will kick in after your first 3 months
REPORTS TO Free Range Director and the Free Range Project Manager
WORKS ALONGSIDE OTB Events team – Operations, Account Managers and Front of House staff

Arranging viewings of venues, handling enquiries
Working closely with exhibiting universities and colleges to prepare them for their shows
Assisting with partnership activity
Gathering estimates and contracting suppliers
Research tasks, actively building relationships with UK educators
Working to achieve publicity outcomes, developing the FR newsletter and maintaining Free Range social media presences
Working closely with the operational team to schedule, ensure H&S requirements are met and ensure the smooth running of the event whilst live (some additional hours may be required during the season)
Post event surveying of exhibitors, compiling event report
Supporting other projects within OTB Events Department as required, developing a good knowledge of the different event spaces and their typical uses

Undergraduate qualification in the arts
Excellent written and verbal communication, experience writing medium-long format pieces desirable
Friendly, eager to learn and highly organised, effective under pressure
Flexibility and enthusiasm in approach to a dynamic workplace
Demonstrated interest in the arts and creative industries
Experience working in an office environment desirable, preferably within an arts administration context
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (love a spread sheet whiz!)
The ability to work to tight deadlines and quickly prioritise workload, using own initiative
