Designer (UX and/or UI) at PotatoAt Potato we design and build websites, tools and apps for huge audiences, for the likes of Google, Tate and the Natural History Museum. We are proud to be a part of the AKQA network.
We are currently looking for a designer to initially join us for a 3 month contract at our office in central London. You’ll be helping to establish and iterate the visual language for an online development hub for one of the world’s largest mobile operating systems. For this role, you should be comfortable working both to clients’ existing design systems as well as starting completely from scratch on brand new visual components with minimal guidance.
We are specifically looking for someone who has an eye for great visual design (typography, iconography, layout, colour - all the usuals) with a portfolio to match.
We are a human-centric design team, which means we want to appeal to both the head and the heart. As a designer we expect you to be able to constantly question and reassess both your own work and that of your team to make sure you’re delivering the right kind of experience for the intended audience. At Potato, everyone is responsible for the user experience of what we design and build.
Your portfolio should show that you are used to working on projects at all stages: participating in initial sketching brainstorms, meeting with clients, fleshing out creative concepts, crafting the experience across multiple channels and devices, and liaising with our large pool of developers to bring everything to fruition to your own exacting standards.
As a team, we all share the responsibility for bringing to life the concepts we create together. While pragmatism should always be in the back of your mind, we need people who can both champion their vision, but also be open to discussion while balancing both the practical and the inspirational.
This is a fixed-term or freelance role for an initial 3 month period (full-time hours) starting ASAP.
We like to see proven abilities in:
- Browser-based UI design
- Interaction design
- Responsive design (with a focus on catering for smaller screens)
- Layout and information design
- Creating and following design specs
- Working collaboratively with other designers and developers
- Creating clear and concise documentation
- Confident sharing of design thinking and recommendations with clients & colleagues
We also like talking to people who enjoy:
- Print Design & Branding
In return you'll get:
- Competitive remuneration
- Free lunch, drinks and snacks
- A fun and supportive working environment
How to ApplyWhen applying, please ensure you attach a cover letter, CV and portfolio, and we’ll get back to you quickly to arrange a cup of tea and a chat.
