About the role

Our Motion Designer is a great visual communicator and collaborator. With a passion for design and creating beautifully refined animation, you bring together everything from the project’s development to date and thrust it creatively into life. Responsible for the clarity of each story’s message and the elegance of its delivery, your role is key to the studio’s successful delivery of a project.

Working closely with our illustrators and creative director, you will sometimes pick-up projects from a final look storyboard with prepared assets ready to animate and other times be responsible for the earlier design phase too. You’re well versed in working with a range of illustration styles and applying the right animation techniques to best enhance the visual concept. A technical whizz, you’re not afraid of trying new ways of working, whilst developing efficient workflows and pushing the boundaries of motion design to elevate the studio’s output.

Shared objectives:

  • Further the studio's mission to create engaging and share-worthy content that delivers a clear brand message
  • Be open and honest at all times
  • Use time and energy wisely
  • Collaborate with the team, valuing other people’s contributions, whilst being confident working autonomously in line with our values and objectives
  • Continually strive to find improvements to processes and workflows that will better a project’s outcome
  • Actively consider and make suggestions for ideas that will positively impact the studio
  • Demonstrate a hunger to improve and develop in your role

Job specific objectives & duties:

  • Design and animate content to facilitate the telling of stories on behalf of our clients or the studio. This includes:
  • Designing style frames to demonstrate the animation look & feel.
  • Creating assets and producing storyboards to illustrate the story scene by scene.
  • Rigging and animating.
  • Basic sound design and audio mix & master.
  • Encoding approvals and final video for delivery.
  • Contribute to projects or pitches with your own ideas to improve the output of a job or help to win new work.
  • Assist the Creative Director in the production of large or advanced projects.
  • Attend client meetings as required to gather information about a project, present ideas for potential work or share the progress of current work.
  • Use methods to check your understanding of briefs or tasks to ensure smooth communication and prevent any misunderstandings.
  • Ensure work meets the brief and is of an adequate standard, without errors or mistakes.
  • Carry out regular research to keep up to date with the motion design industry including animation related news and trends.
  • Keep a log of time spent on each project for billing purposes and time spent learning or in training to keep a track of personal development.
  • Develop skills as a Motion Designer, asking for help and guidance where required.
  • Keep a look out for and report opportunities to expand the studio’s client base.
  • Make suggestions for and create regular and engaging social media content.
  • Answer the phones and respond to emails in a polite and professional manner.
  • Keep a tidy workspace and help to keep the studio a clean, pleasant space to work in; doing a fair share of housekeeping.
  • Any other adhoc duties appropriate for the role.
