As the Play Studios team continues to grow, we are looking for a Sr. Visual Designer/ Art Director to join the in-house creative team. In this ambitious environment, we need a conceptual and strategic thinker, with strong Illustration skills to develop comprehensive, integrated and highly-visible campaigns in the Play Store.

Job responsibilities

  • Rapidly iterate on designs based on feedback from users and stakeholders
  • Partner with other designers to refine design systems and integrate new features into our evolving products
  • Art Direction and Visual Design mentorship for current team members
  • You’re experienced in establishing narratives through imagery, both static and moving
  • You have a portfolio of relevant work samples that demonstrates the following:
    • Conceptual thinking
    • Strong visual design and illustration skills
    • Experience building Design Systems and brand architecture
    • An understanding of leading creative trends in tech, advertising and branding.
    • An ability to receive, interpret and embrace creative direction

As Designer/Art Director, you will contribute to the entire creative process from brief-ins from Merchandising team, to concepting stage and through to production/execution. You will be held responsible for understanding the balance between brand, product and consumer.

You will drive innovation and excellence across the Play Studios portfolio, bringing both a love of design system thinking along with a keen eye for detail and craft to everything you touch. You will help define the future of Play in a joyful and useful way for our users while also defining how the Play brand voice can scale across several of our products.

Minimum qualifications

You must meet these minimum qualifications to apply for this job:

  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary UX and/or product teams (motion, interaction, UX research, engineering, content strategy) on technical implementation.
  • Experience implementing visual design systems across a range of platforms in an iterative software development environment.
  • Portfolio highlighting multiple projects and your direct contributions.


Preferred qualifications

Having as many of these specific qualifications is a plus, but transferable skills/experiences may be equally valuable

  • 6+ years of experience in Art Director, Visual Design or Illustration in leading editorial, digital media, or advertising fields.
  • You have a portfolio of relevant work samples that demonstrates the following: conceptual thinking, strong visual design and illustration skills.
  • An understanding of leading creative trends in tech, advertising and Illustration brand work, and an ability to receive, interpret and embrace creative direction.
  • Managing executive stakeholders and non-design stakeholders for key campaigns.
  • 3 years of experience managing or leading design teams
  • Experience defining campaigns, providing art direction for larger projects.
  • Experience partnering with UX Research to amplify research and design impact.
  • Experience leading xfn design efforts while keeping responsibilities as an individual contributor.
  • Demonstrated record of crafting joyful digital experiences.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Understanding of content management systems and automation tools for asset creation.
  • Ability to create work in a versatile range of styles.
