Job Description

6 month contract-co parental leave cover

Shelter is looking for a talented Creative Lead to join their creative team and join the fight to end homelessness.

You're a strong conceptual thinker, with bags of experience working in a creative role within an internal or external agency. Your knowledge of branding, typography, digital and your graphic design skills are second to none. You're excited by the prospect of shaping how we communicate visually and tonally, for years to come. You're a friendly sort who loves working closely with other designers and writers… Sound like you? Then we'd like to meet.

Here's a bit more about us

We believe that home is a fundamental human need - as essential as education or healthcare. We go to work every day because millions of people across Britain are struggling with homelessness, poor housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. We’re fighting for change, for individual people, communities, across society and leading the way to a safe home, for everyone.

We need ambitious, determined, first-class creatives who feel inspired by our cause and want to join us at this exciting time. If we're going to create real change, we all have a part to play - and this is your time.

About the role

This senior role is key in leading major creative projects from concept through to production.

You'll deliver highly creative work, backed up with strong strategic thinking, and present it clearly and convincingly to multiple stakeholders. Working closely with the Creative Director on some projects, you'll be expected to take the lead on a variety of creative jobs, having final sign-off on both the concept and design aspects.

You'll lead groups of both designers and writers to create these projects, helping them to develop their creativity, presentation and communication styles and ensuring that high creative standards are maintained, not just in your own work, but in that of those you mentor.

About you

You have a proven track record of creating integrated campaign concepts that can be delivered across all media. You have experience of working to brief, understanding different audience needs and applying this knowledge to creative solutions.

Your ability to format and supply graphics and illustration files (JPEG, GIF, PDF, EPS, etc.) for online and external suppliers is essential too, as is expertise in using Adobe Indesign, proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator and MS Office and knowledge of both PC and Mac platforms.

Benefits

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave (pro rata), enhanced family-friendly policies, childcare vouchers, pension and interest-free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We're here so no one fights bad housing or homelessness on their own.

Safeguarding is everyone's business. Shelter is committed to protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of those we support, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. All our staff will be expected to observe professional standards of behaviour and conduct their work in line with our Safeguarding Policies.

Shelter promotes equality, diversity and inclusion in our workplace. We make employment decisions by matching business needs with skills and experience of candidates, irrespective of age, disability (including hidden disabilities), gender, gender identity or gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.

We also encourage applications from people, who have been homeless or have been at risk of homelessness. We are facing diverse problems, so need diverse people to tackle them.

We're happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.

Shelter does not accept unsolicited CVs from external recruitment agencies nor accept the fees associated with them.
