Calverts is a creative design studio and printing company, and a workers cooperative.


We have created a position for a marketing and new business specialist, and are looking to recruit in summer 2018.


Calverts works across a broad spectrum of client sectors including arts, education, fashion, niche consumer brands and third sector.


We are looking for someone who feels comfortable, excited and persuasive talking about high end print or design for print and web, and who has a flair for social media.


The role
As the marketing manager for Calverts, your primary responsibility will be creating sales opportunities by implementing marketing and new business campaigns, building good client relationships, and cultivating our business networks. You will need to be flexible and contribute to other business activity as part of a close-knit production and front of house team.


After an induction period, you will be offered full membership of the cooperative as an equal worker-director.


Skills, experience, responsibilities and duties
Your understanding of the sector


You will need:


  • A broad understanding and enthusiasm for branding and visual design, particularly for print and web
  • A broad understanding of the print industry
  • An understanding and knowledge of our target sectors
  • A practical understanding of contemporary marketing practice, particularly within the creative industries

Your experience


You will need:


  • A track record of running successful marketing campaigns
  • The ability to develop and conduct market research, identify new business opportunities, analyse results and develop a sound marketing strategy in consultation with the co-operative. Including developing and implementing a calendar of relevant events and initiatives, as well as scheduling basic communications. 
  • The ability to source and develop relevant new business leads
  • A willingness to contribute to, help coordinate, develop and implement a service offer for the business
  • To identify and stay abreast of the work of our immediate competitors, as well as the industry more broadly

Your communication and presentation skills


It will be your responsibility to develop and implement marketing initiatives relevant to the business’s strategy, raising Calverts’ profile in both print and design


You will need:


  • Great communication skills, both verbal and written – you will need to successfully liaise with potential clients, current clients and internally with the whole team
  • Good negotiation skills, especially when developing new business contacts
  • Good presentation skills, including attending client pitches, conferences, conventions
  • Strong copywriting skills for marketing collateral, including press releases, tenders, websites and blogs, brochures, letters, emails, pitch documents
  • An ability to update your skills quickly, learn new processes and contribute to innovation within the business

Your experience with social media and related platforms


You will need:


  • An ability to maintain multiple social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, with the possibility to develop YouTube/Vimeo)
  • Experience of writing for and managing WordPress content
  • A working knowledge of email marketing systems

Co-operative working


You will need:


  • A genuine interest in and enthusiasm for collaborative working
  • To be confident in attending and contributing to cooperative management meetings

Desirable


  • Working knowledge of Adobe CS
  • Studio photography skills
  • Experience and/or proven track record of tendering processes for print and design 
  • An interest in environmental policies

Terms
Hours: 35 hours per week
Holiday: 6.6 weeks annual leave including Bank Holidays
Salary: £33,670 pa
