Are you an energetic and creative Digital Designer who relishes the idea of translating a 175-year-old newspaper into compelling designs for modern audiences? Are you a skilled visual storyteller with a strong track record and keen understanding of brand values?

The Economist is seeking a talented Graphic Designer to work primarily on its award-winning “Snapchat Discover” edition. You’ll work very closely with our Snapchat editors and animators whilst reporting to the Head of Graphics and Art Director as part of the London-based editorial design team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing all the design and illustration for our weekly editions. You’ll take part in editorial planning meetings with the Snapchat team (based both in London and overseas) to create storyboards, roughs and wireframes ahead of finalised artwork.

The majority of our Snapchat graphics are animated and must be designed with motion in mind. Though you’ll work alongside dedicated animators, some animation expertise of your own would be highly preferable.

Candidates must be experienced and show evidence of a strong background in digital design. You’ll demonstrate a prowess for creative visual solutions while adhering to brand guidelines. A close interest in current affairs and news media would also be advantageous.

• Deliver excellent artwork while upholding our brand style and values
• Demonstrate creativity and imaginative design and illustration skills
• Work with multiple stakeholders, editors and animators across international time-zones
• Gather and agree requirements, helping to plan and develop design briefs for each edition
• Clearly articulate your design rationale and have the ability to present your work to your peers and stakeholders
• Keep up-to-date on innovations in the design world, and use this to keep your output fresh and relevant

• Solid experience in graphic design with editorial, branding or commercial design experience
• A thorough understanding of social media platforms and their visual language
• Strong Adobe Creative suite and/or Sketch skills
• Some knowledge and experience with animation and motion graphics tools
• A particularly keen attention to detail
• Robust typographic and information design abilities
• Experience working to tight deadlines (newsroom experience would be beneficial)

• Self-motivation, and the ability to perform well and stay calm under pressure
• Friendly and receptive demeanour, an enthusiastic team-worker
• An interest in global politics and current affairs
• A good level of general education, a design degree or equivalent qualification would be preferable
• Good communication skills and fluency in English

Hours: 10am-6pm, Mon-Fri Start date: ASAP Salary: £TBC
