Snapshot

This is an opportunity to join a phenomenal team of people in a complex, mission-driven company. DeepMind continues to grow at pace, and is now seeking a talented, driven presentation designer to support senior leadership, as well as work on presentations for the wider company.

Based within the newly formed in-house Design Studio, the presentation designer will be responsible for preparing slide decks and other visual materials for both internal and external purposes. This will range from helping to convey our groundbreaking research to creating business-update decks and presentation support for keynotes and conferences.

This is a chance for a proactive, self-starting presentations designer to make a tangible difference to the work of one of the most exciting and extraordinary companies in the world. This role requires high standards, effective communication, and a can-do, resilient approach, as well as the ability to work quickly and efficiently whilst still getting the details right.

This role would suit someone who thrives in fast-paced, changeable environments and is looking to define their career within a company that will change the world.

About You

Experience and approach

You have demonstrable presentation design experience in fast-paced and demanding environments, ideally having produced presentations for technology-driven or scientific organisations.
You have a track record of delivering visually excellent and on-brand presentations for diverse audiences (using keynote, PowerPoint and Google Slides). You believe in consistently delivering high-quality design and exceeding expectations.
You’re excited to tell visual stories using presentations, and you use creativity and technical know-how to ensure even complex information is conveyed effectively.

Skills

You have a high level of proficiency across the Adobe Creative Cloud suite – including Illustrator and Photoshop, and ideally also InDesign. A good working knowledge of After Effects is a plus.
You are adept at delivering high-quality work to very tight deadlines. You work well under pressure, whilst maintaining accuracy and creativity, and can manage the production process from start to finish.
You work rapidly and effectively, finding smart solutions to tricky problems and absorbing feedback and actioning it quickly.
You have experience in managing complex design projects. You strike a balance between creativity and efficiency by creating master decks and durable assets, and improving processes.
You have the ability to build a rapport, taking a proactive approach to managing clients and understanding their needs. You are comfortable working with clients who require very fast turnaround and have limited time to give briefs.
You can interpret key messages, concepts and data into clear graphics, both through typography and data visualization.
You are experienced in advising senior leadership on visual design.
You have a strong interest in technology, computer science, AI or social-impact organisations, or in health or scientific research.

The Role

You will need to use your previous experience and show initiative in order to fully carve out your contribution in this role. Your priority area of focus will be to deliver excellent-quality, rapid-turnaround presentation design services directly to senior leadership. You will also have the opportunity to consistently work on broad and varied presentation briefs for the wider company, as well as creating and maintaining an asset bank of presentation templates.

This is not a typical presentation design role. You will have the opportunity to apply your innovative thinking to design in an unconventional and adventurous organisation.

Key responsibilities:

Support for senior leadership

Produce polished, informative and visually-beautiful presentation decks on a variety of topics, ensuring these are always delivered on time. Adapt and update existing designs when needed, or create presentations from scratch.
Deliver presentation support for senior leadership. This requires high-quality work delivered at an exceptionally fast turnaround (within a day) and flexible work hours, and will include producing graphics, diagrams, and slide decks suitable for varied audiences.
Build a close relationship with senior leadership. Become the go-to, trusted person who can help express their thoughts and plans through visual design. Develop visuals that communicate their ideas and messages effectively to varied audiences.
Work to predict and pre-empt design needs for upcoming events - take a proactive approach to meeting these needs ahead of time by updating decks or drafting materials.
Integrate yourself with the wider team. Collaborate and communicate effectively to ensure that everyone is informed about progress, direction and deadlines.

General visual design work (across DeepMind)

Create an asset bank of standardised company-wide decks, complete with clear guidance for use. Mentor and monitor the use of these in public presentations by other teams, ensuring these are employed effectively and remain on-brand.
Collaborate with internal teams, delivering high-quality, diverse presentation design work for a range of internal stakeholders, and effectively managing priorities to deliver to deadlines.
Work within an existing brand, applying these guidelines across a broad range of decks.
Collaborate effectively with external design agencies, providing insight, guidance and support to ensure their work meets DeepMind’s branding guidelines and standards and is delivered on time and on budget.
Provide feedback and support to other DeepMind staff who are commissioning external design work, including checking briefs and providing sign-off on content for quality and adherence to brand guidelines.
