We need to take action. Over half of the world’s population is under 30 years of age and it is a generation which has inherited a number of global challenges – from climate change, to increasing inequality and intolerance. Yet too often young people’s voices go unheeded when decisions are made that will affect the future of generations to come.

The New Now will bring together a Core Group of future focused leaders to collectively inspire a rising generation to shape decisions for tomorrow’s world. People like Jaha Dukureh (anti-FGM activist), Taylor Wilson (nuclear physicist and science advocate), Alaa Murabit (medical doctor and peace and security expert), Jeremy Heimans (activist and movement builder), Uzo Iweala (writer and entrepreneur), Roya Mahboob (tech entrepreneur and education advocate) and Farwiza Farhan (environmental advocate).

The New Now is being incubated by Virgin Unite, the entrepreneurial foundation of the Virgin Group. Virgin Unite has previously incubated The Elders, The B Team, The Carbon War Room and Ocean Unite.

We have ambitious plans to engage a rising generation of passionate activists to drive change through a knock-out digital strategy. The Digital Lead will have an opportunity to shape this from the outset, working in a fast-paced start-up, and with responsibilities across digital production, social media, audience development and engagement and technology.

6 Month Deliverables:

  • Devise three year digital strategy and roadmap (including setting objectives, goals and milestones.
  • Lead on development, delivery and launch of digital platform, including managing relationship with external agency and integration of existing platforms of the Core Group.
  • Lead on development and delivery of digital assets and content for launch of initiative, platform and first campaign(s).
  • Develop strategic partnerships with digital platforms, media/content providers and distributors and build amplifiers network.
  • Ensure rapid acquisition, engagement and growth of an active digital community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Devise, implement and drive forward the digital strategy and roadmap.
  • Work with the Senior Team and the Core Group to provide the lead on the digital execution of the organisation’s activities and campaigns.
  • Set specific digital objectives, goals and outcomes over a targeted three year timetable and monitor performance against the same.
  • Lead the development and management of the initiative’s platform and act as guardian of the overall visual and user experience.
  • Build on and integrate existing platforms used by Core Group into the initiative’s platform, so both can benefit from growing new audiences.
  • Develop campaign and content strategy to deliver engaging experiences and products that builds the profile of the organisation, the Core Group and grows an active digital community who are driving change and tracks impact.
  • Develop the social strategy across all platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc.), to deliver engaging posts that builds the profiles of the organisation, its core group members and grows an active digital community who are driving change.
  • Lead the development of assets and collateral, including commissioning and curating content.
  • Lead the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of all digital work including content analysis, distribution strategies, audience growth and insights, including championing a data-led strategy.
  • Identify opportunities for, and build, strategic partnerships with other digital and media platforms and providers.
  • Build an amplifiers network to expand the reach and audience of the initiative.
  • Over time build and lead the team to deliver the digital, brand and communications of The Youngers.
  • Be prepared to get stuck-in and build an organisation from the ground-up, contributing where necessary to make the initiative a success.

Experience:

  • Proven experience of the development of digital and social strategies either for organisations or at an agency, with a focus on engaging youth or youthful audiences, preferably in a fast-paced digital publishing environment.
  • Proven experience of developing and managing platforms with super engaging user experience that hook audiences in and keep them active.
  • Proven experience of digital marketing techniques and/or delivery of digital campaigns for social change.
  • Track record of managing platform builds, delivering digital projects and campaigns to time, quality standards and budget which deliver results.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing digital development and production agencies and freelancers.
  • Proven experience of managing, developing and motivating a team is essential.

  • Lover of data and metrics to improve performance with experience of using analytical tools to derive strategic insights.
  • Excellent management and project management skills
