Role Description:
We are seeking a senior-level digital-designer who will work as part of our London-based editorial design team. Reporting to the Head of Graphics and under the guidance of the Art Director you will work closely with fellow designers, the web development team and multiple stakeholders on a wide variety of projects, producing compelling design solutions for The Economist’s digital products. You will produce creative and comprehensive designs, wireframes, prototypes and graphics, whilst observing best practices.

Candidates must be experienced and able to demonstrate a strong background in web and/or app design, producing creative visual solutions while adhering to brand guidelines. Coding skills and web development knowledge are a must, strong CSS and HTML at the bare minimum.


Expectations and Responsibilities:
• Deliver excellent design across our product base while upholding our brand style and values
• Work across all our platforms with multiple stakeholders on both existing products and fresh innovations
• Gather and agree requirements, helping to develop and plan design briefs for each project
• Clearly articulate your design rationale and have the ability to present your work to your peers and stakeholders
• Keep up-to-date on innovations in the digital-design world, and use this to keep your output fresh and relevant


You Will Be Able To Demonstrate:
• Solid experience in graphic design with editorial, branding or commercial design experience
• Expert knowledge of CSS, HTML, and the ability to use rapid prototyping tools
• Strong Adobe Creative suite and/or Sketch skills
• A particularly keen attention to detail!
• Experience working to tight deadlines (newsroom experience would be beneficial)
• Robust typographic and information design abilities
• Capabilities in responsive design, across desktop mobile and tablet
• An appreciation for UX and user-centred design


Other Requirements:
• Self-motivation, and the ability to perform well and stay calm under pressure
• A keen interest in global politics and current affairs
• Friendly and receptive demeanour, an enthusiastic team-worker
• A good level of general education, a design degree or equivalent qualification would be preferable
• Good communication skills and fluency in English


Hours: 10am-6pm, Mon-Fri Start date: ASAP Salary: £TBC
