In your role as a Digital Designer at Magpie Studio, your primary focus will be in bringing brands, and their associated stories, to life through the digital medium. It should be noted that the role is not simply about technical ability, but that the successful candidate will have a keen eye for design, and an ideas-driven approach, demonstrable through a portfolio of past work and current sites.

Key responsibilities include:
• Acting as a lynchpin between Magpie Studio and external web developers, it is expected that you’ll be able to connect the core creative team and front-end developers.
• Lead and co-ordinating the delivery of digital projects (eg. websites, animation, social campaigns), on behalf of Magpie Studio and our clients.
• Creation and development of web assets, including UI, graphics and animated content for websites, leading to beautiful, engaging digital experiences for our clients.
• Working with clients and internal teams to define the requirements for websites, defining wireframes, appropriate technologies, content plans and functionality.
• Undertaking competitor research, expert reviews, client workshops and audits.
• Presentation of concepts, designs and rationale internally and to our clients.
• Art direction of external suppliers needed to bring the vision to life.
• Validation of ideas and designs through prototyping and user testing, prior to launch.

Key requirements:
• A passion for creative design in all its forms.
• A minimum of 4 years’ industry experience.
• A portfolio of beautifully executed projects. Your portfolio should demonstrate a breadth of experience, and an ability to adapt the tone of your work to suit a variety of different businesses, be that clean, sophisticated, bold or playful.
• Outstanding communicator. Working with a positive, pro-active mindset and collaborative, team-player attitude.
• Great organisational skills, able to juggle and prioritise across multiple projects.
• Highly proficient in working with the full Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AfterEffects), as well as appropriate prototyping software.
• A working knowledge of HTML, CSS & InVision.
• Creation of sites through Wordpress, Squarespace & Shopify.
• Keeping up to date with interactive design trends and technology developments.
• It is also considered an advantage if you have previously occupied a full-time position in a small creative studio.
 
The wider job role:
It’s expected that you’ll be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of the core creative team. As part of our small team of multi-talented designers, you’ll often be required to apply your talents to all areas of the creative process. Beyond the creation of digital experiences, your input will be welcome and valued across the process of brand creation.
As part of your wider role within the studio, we’d like you to:
• Aim for pixel perfect output.
• Work from an initial client brief to generate compelling ideas and concepts for their future brands.
• Develop an eye for typography and general knowledge of typographic principles.
• Work with the wider team to deliver your ideas across more traditional media (print, packaging).
• Mentor junior team-members.
• Build content for the studio’s website and social media channels.
