Our HQ team are looking for a Senior Designer to cover maternity leave, designing covers for our commercial imprint HQ and occasionally designing for Mills & Boon. Also included in the role is the marketing design, across all imprints. This role would be a perfect opportunity for a designer to move into a senior design role.


Responsibilities
• Work with the Head of Design to define progress and shaping of solutions to individual briefs and deadlines
• Manage covers from concept to production ensuring they are delivered on time and on budget
• Create new, innovative and market-leading design concepts for a range of titles across all genres
• Be proactive in looking for fresh design solutions, new illustrators and new formats
• Understand editorial requirements and ensure a detailed brief is taken at the beginning of the design process.
• Manage the workload of the design intern and support where necessary
• Liaise with Head of Design regarding deadlines and finishes to ensure cover proofs and approved final jackets go to press on time
• Attend weekly Cover Art meetings, discuss feedback, agree, and implement changes to the design and feed back to the team or freelancers effectively
• Adhere to brand guidelines were necessary
• Excellent knowledge of creative resources including illustrators, photographers, designers, agents, and photo libraries
• Ability to deal with people issues effectively
• Adopting a ‘big picture’ view of the workflow and knowing when to step in and restart a project


Key Skills/Experience
• Experience in cover design
• Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Design Degree or equivalent
• After Effects experience, desirable but not necessary
• Solid experience of freelance management
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Innovative approach to design
• Strong communication and influencing skills
• Comprehensive portfolio.

We’re based in the News Building which we share with our News UK and Dow Jones colleagues in the newly-established London Bridge Quarter, opposite the famous Borough Market. Our new open-plan office has amazing views across London, and includes a variety of break-out areas to aid inspiration and a collaborative approach, a multi-media suite, and a fabulous canteen floor and book shop.
