The Role


We are seeking a talented Junior Designer to work closely with the Creative Director, creating visuals throughout the magazines, whether this is commissioning photography, illustration or creating the content yourself. You will design pages, assist on photo shoots, contribute ideas and concepts and assist with the reproduction of the magazine.


You will create content across all platforms for our Health and Fitness titles, including Men's Heath and Runner's world, with a particular focus on Women's Health, incorporating all the necessary elements (e.g. photographs, illustrations and copy), adhering to given deadlines and styles.


Key Areas of Responsibility


•    To come up with visual ideas for features and regular pages across all platforms
•    To take responsibility for certain elements of design, from concept to finished product, as determined with the Creative Director.
•    To liaise with all other editorial and production staff.
•    To work to predetermined Art department/design goals on a day-to-day basis, and be actively aware of the production schedule.
•    To work as part of the Art department team, sharing responsibility and helping other members with the workload.
•    To design magazine-related projects, such as invitations, brand extension products, marketing initiatives, etc (under the direction of the Creative Director).
•    To mark-up pages correctly for repro and final-check pages.
•    To carry out any other tasks requested by the Creative Director and Art Editor in their absence.
•    To take responsibility for forms for work-experience students and freelancers.
•    To assist on shoots.
•    To keep actively aware of budgets.
•    To keep up your knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and other technology for both print and web.
•    To contribute regularly to social media activity by creating original and engaging social media posts.
•    To keep on the lookout for new photographers and illustrators suitable for Women’s Health and draw the attention of the Art team to them.


The Person


•    A passion for design and creating beautiful and engaging images for both print and digital mediums.
•    A strong visual sense and highly creative, often thinking conceptually and outside the box.
•    An understanding of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
•    Excellent time management and communication skills.
•    A team player with a ‘sleeves-up’ attitude.”
