Programme Manager, New Now


Established in 2001, YCN (You Can Now) is a learning network. If you’re passionate about learning, and helping others fulfil their goals — particularly those at the beginning of their professional journey — we’d love for you to join our central team and drive our New Now programme forward.


Today, the past and the future


We help organisations build the capability they need to achieve their goals. To do this we focus in on three key areas — enriching the skills of their people, defining their purpose and strategy, and connecting them with relevant expert partners.


We partner with a fine line up of market-leading clients; from big global retailers like Dr Martens and Lush Cosmetics, to fast growing tech stars like Farfetch and WeTransfer; extraordinary charities like the NSPCC and Scope to award-winning creative agencies like forpeople and Koto. And we engage throughout their teams, from the leaders at the top to their newest hires; helping them to build new skills, discover new ways of working and solve business problems in motivating and connected ways.


But when YCN began in 2001, it was a different (albeit complementary) story. YCN started life in the higher education system, born from a network of universities, colleges — and a goal of connecting new talent with industry; so that ideas, knowledge and expertise could be exchanged in mutually valuable ways.


And as YCN has evolved since 2001, we’ve kept up all of this grassroots, student and graduate focussed activity — for example through our annual student award programme, by visiting educational institutions each year and by championing new talent whenever we can.


Last year we decided to give this part of our work its own identity; and launched a platform called New Now to enable us to better communicate the purpose behind it — enabling rising talent and industry to connect in mutually valuable ways.


New Now is about believing in an empowered and diverse future for the creative industries, it’s about connecting organisations that rely on creativity and fresh thinking with the freshest creative thinkers out there.


The Programme Manager opening


We’d now love to now find a Programme Manager to drive the programme forward and build on our successes achieved so far. Someone excited by the opportunity to support emerging talent, to work with some of the most creative brands and agencies in the business — and to make a real impact on individuals and organisations. It’s a brilliant time to plug into the programme, take ownership and put your own stamp on it.


As Programme Manager for New Now, your responsibilities will include:


— Working alongside our broader programme team to design and deliver talks and events that engage students and recent graduates; both delivered in YCN’s spaces but also further afield.


— Helping to enrich our relationships with key contacts at universities, colleagues and art and design schools across the UK and beyond. This will involve building relationships with tutors and course leaders remotely, as well as visiting institutions; often taking people from industry along to share their knowledge and expertise.


— Identifying and building partner relationships with brands and agencies; sharing opportunities for them to get involved; whether that’s setting live briefs to students or participating in events and other content.


— Helping to shape and deliver our annual Student Awards event where we bring together 300+ students and recent graduates with industry for a colourful and optimistic evening, focussed on their work and their future.


— Facilitating sessions where groups of students and recent graduates connect with brands and agencies. That might be research sessions around our programme aims, portfolio reviews or partner sessions live challenges are tackled.


— Connecting in to the broader day-to-day wok of YCN, and the ways we’re engaging our clients and partners more broadly so that we’re always aware of where valuable overlaps exist.


You:


As our ideal candidate you’ll have:


— At least 2 years experience in a relevant role.


— Evident passion for creativity and a drive to support emerging creative talent.


— Commercial awareness and experience of partnering with brands.


— A mission driven outlook and growth mindset.


— Exceptional written, verbal and all-round people skills.


— An enjoyment for bringing groups of people together and joining the dots between them.


— A good insight into the creative industries and consumer culture; an awareness of the drivers of brands and agencies when it comes to the value of engaging with new talent.


— Good computer skills and familiarity with the obvious programmes and tools.


— A passion for continual learning and helping others to achieve their goals.


— Ideas for where we should be going next with the programme.


— Good book suggestions for our Library.
