About Us:

Direct Line Group is an ambitious company employing thousands of people throughout the UK. We’re proud to be one of Britain's leading general insurers, offering millions of customers decades of experience and knowledge. In the history of modern insurance, there has never been a bigger time for change than now and we work hard to make sure our well known brands –Direct Line, Churchill, Privilege, NIG and Green Flag are making insurance easier and better value for our customers. We know we can’t do this without our brilliant people who we reward for ideas and thinking as well as results because that’s how we can achieve amazing things – for our customers and for each other.

What we’re looking for:

If you’re an inquisitive, collaborative, customer-focused UX Designer looking for an amazing challenge, you’ve come to the right place.

We’re a diverse, dedicated team of digital professionals re-inventing the whole Green Flag digital experience for our customers, our people and our partners. As part of this work we have an opportunity for someone to come and lead the design of a forward-thinking staff experience. The role is based in Leeds which means that you’ll be sat right alongside your stakeholders, designing on the fly and collecting quick fire feedback as you go.

Sound good so far?

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

A typical day will involve a healthy mix of Product, UX, UI and Service Design.

You'll be documenting and creating user flows, and rapidly producing wireframes and prototypes.

You’ll conduct research, run user feedback sessions (lab, online and guerrilla) and regularly stand and deliver your findings to senior stakeholders.

You'll be working with an existing component library and adding to it when needed. We believe you’ll like this - it means you can really focus on the user experience, as 75% of the ‘shiny stuff’ is already done. It also means a bit of breathing room to research and get stuck into the problems you’ll be solving.

You’ll be collaborating on a regular basis with our wider team of designers based in Bromley. You’ll have multiple daily catch-ups, idea generation sessions, and plenty of chances to share your experiences and ideas with the rest of the team.

You’ll get stuck in to the challenge of taking complex processes and breaking them down into simple, elegant tasks and interfaces. Error ‘#123646’ has no place here.

What you will bring:

Problem solving. You’ll enjoy finding solutions, whatever the problem, and you look forward to influencing people to do the right thing.

Great communication skills and confidence. You’ll enjoy selling your ideas, and you’re happy to present to 2 or to 200.

An inquisitive mind. You’re always ready to tackle and explore new ideas.

A collaborative way of working. Working in isolation isn’t your style. You thrive on interacting with people.

Experience using some of our tools. We work using Sketch, Creative Suite, Invision, Balsamiq and more. But, don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes, your brain is much more important than the tools. And feel free to recommend better options.

Here’s what we’ll need from you.

A portfolio that provides examples of work demonstrating an ability to generate ideas, problem solve and effectively communicate your thinking.

Your portfolio will need to showcase an understanding of HTML/CSS and responsive design techniques. If you have examples of internal facing software, that’s an added bonus.

If we like what we see, we’ll arrange a telephone interview. And if that goes swimmingly, we’ll set you a small task where you’ll get the chance to show us how you go about solving a problem. This will be done face-to-face in our Leeds office.

What you will get in return…

A competitive salary
Up to 10% bonus p/a
9% Pension contribution
50% off Home, Motor, and Pet insurance
Free Green Flag breakdown recovery
Free travel insurance
