FT Weekend Magazine is looking for a midweight/senior designer to join the editorial team. This position is for a fixed-term contract (six months – one year). The ideal candidate will need a strong visual sense, a track record in magazine/digital design and an address book bursting with creative contacts.

The ability to work across both print and digital formats is crucial to this role. As well as proficiency in editorial design, s/he will need an understanding of how to make long-form content work online, an eagerness to push digital innovation and the ability to execute sophisticated new ideas quickly.

This is an exciting and important job in an extremely busy department, and the ability to multitask successfully and communicate clearly is crucial. Other responsibilities include: taking charge of the design for magazine supplements, working closely with our photography and editorial desks and assuming a critical role in the magazine's weekly production schedule.

The role includes:
• Designing magazine features, from reportage to interviews and essays
• Commissioning illustrations
• Art directing photo shoots
• Standing in for the art director during annual-leave periods
• Working with editors, writers and photo editors to build a story’s visual identity, from concept stage to the finished product
• Creating social-media assets to promote and share our features e.g. Instagram stories

• Minimum of five years’ editorial design experience
• Highly creative and able to think conceptually
• Extremely organised
• Broad knowledge of typography
• Possesses good layout skills with attention to detail
• Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency across Adobe Creative Suite
