Job Description
Designer for The Economist
Company introduction
The Economist is a global news company covering international business and world affairs, first published in 1843. We deliver our content through a wide range of formats from the magazine, websites and apps, film and audio.
Role description
Our design team is expanding. We’re hiring a one-year paid fellowship junior design role in our editorial offices in central London.
The Graphics team comprises creative designers and picture editors. Some are print layout and commissioning specialists, others are animators with digital as their focus. We are looking for a fellowship role to help with our new content management system and the variety of work that spans the design desk responsibilities. Our team of designers work closely with the editors and the production teams to produce the print magazine as well as the illustration content for a number of digital channels from the website to social media. You’ll be hands-on with some of our flagship products, including the magazine, the website, daily app, newsletters, social media and other products.
You should also demonstrate a keenness to understand the way products need to be set up to allow us to produce our content to a newspaper schedule using templates and automated systems.
