Job Description

How&How are looking for a Design Director to organise, inspire and lead our growing team of graphic, motion and digital designers. On projects and accounts you’ll work closely with the creative and production teams to lead the design of brands, user interfaces and campaigns. You’ll be at home creating immaculate presentations which tell inspiring stories, and bring clients along with the Studio’s collective ideas and visions.

You will nurture, challenge and get the most out of your design team and be a source of knowledge and inspiration to them too. You will be the creative engine driving our projects forward—and be as comfortable designing as you are directing or mentoring..

Topline: we’re looking for a Design Director who wants to make our Studio stronger, and believes their best work is still ahead of them. This person will chase big ideas, agonise over the details and have a kind and generous heart.

Your responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the development of our designers—working alongside them to get the most out of them through mentoring and showing them how it’s done
  • Collaborate with strategists, writers, producers and the creative team to deliver work that is bold, conceptual and different
  • Be ultra confident in leading and delivering presentations of your team’s work to clients, inspiring them to make creative leaps
  • Relish diving into any stage of the creative process to assist, encourage or recover the work of others

Your skills:

  • Currently a Design Director or an incredibly experienced Senior Designer looking to take things up a gear
  • 7+ years industry experience
  • A talent spotter with strong relationships with other freelance designers and contributors
  • Have experience creating brands for digital-first businesses
  • Have experience leading multiple creative projects at the same time, with light-touch oversight only
  • Be a self-driven leader with a curious mind and zero ego
  • Be a font of technical design knowledge with a keen eye for detail and a drive for creative perfection in yourself and others
  • At ease with the buck stopping with you
  • Have your finger on the pulse of current trends in the world of design / art / fashion / creativity and bring that information and enthusiasm for popular culture into the Studio everyday
  • Know when to stand up for your creative vision and when to support the opinions of your team or clients

Our responsibilities:

  • Salary £73,500 (1st tier) / £79,000 (2nd tier)—with Bonus Opportunities
  • 39 Day Holiday allocation—28 days holiday + 8 bank holidays + Christmas shutdown
  • Based from our bright and airy London studio, in the heart of Shoreditch with 2 days WFH per week
  • 5pm finish on a Friday
  • Monthly 1-2-1s, 3 month Check-ins and 6 Month Reviews to make sure you have meaningful and regular access to your line managers and mentors
  • Open, Equal & Transparent Pay Brackets
  • £1,000/year Skills & Training Allowance
  • Sabbatical policy of up to 3 months after you've been with us for 2 years
  • Cross-Skill Training—giving you the ability to improve on overall performance with cross training by strengthening one’s skillset. Shadow a teammate to learn a new skill or teach one
  • 2 Week Remote Working Opportunities (timezone dependent)
  • We’re B-Corp Certified, which means our agency meets the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability
  • Impact Days—as part of our B-Corp initiative, we give you an extra 2 days a year to make an impact and volunteer in a way that means something to you
  • Visa Sponsorship - we can help sponsor your Visa in the UK! Currently working on doing the same in the U.S.
