Creative Artworker
Job Description
We’re looking for a talented, passionate and practical Creative Artworker to join our team.
About the V&A:
The V&A is a family of museums dedicated to the power of creativity. Our mission is to champion design and creativity in all its forms, advance cultural knowledge, and inspire makers, creators and innovators everywhere.
We share a 5,000-year-old story of creativity through exhibitions, events, educational programmes, digital experiences, conservation, research, and an ever-evolving national collection of over 2.8m objects spanning every creative discipline.
Our small design studio has a portfolio of exciting projects including blockbuster exhibitions, temporary and permanent gallery displays. The studio is fast-paced, collaborative and hands-on, working iteratively with curators, consultants and collaborators to design distinctive and meaningful experiences for the public.
What we’re looking for:
The ideal person will be someone who can balance a range of projects and move happily from typesetting object labels for a major exhibition, to creating the seasonal What’s On booklet or rolling a design concept out across an advertising campaign; to creating museum collateral within brand guidelines and packaging artwork to liaising with printers or applying vinyl lettering to ensure an exhibition opens on time and looks fantastic.
In addition to individual projects, we’re looking for someone who wants to contribute to the ongoing development of the studio and print unit by ensuring artwork files and records are comprehensive and ensure we maintain technical skills across the team by staying up to speed with new software, materials, techniques and production processes.
The ideal candidate will:
1. Show excellent design literacy and demonstrate quick understanding of the style and objectives of concepts.
2. Bring an excellent knowledge of different types of production and materials, in order to liaise with our in-house team and external printers.
3. Demonstrate proven experience of artworking a broad range of output, developing designs from an approved concept into a series of final assets.
4. Have experience handling typesetting amends according to client feedback and requirements.
5. Want to meticulously check artwork and ensure files are print or motion ready, including the liaison with printer and social teams to ensure accuracy of final output.
6. Have an excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (namely InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects) including fantastic typographic, image retouching and motion skills.
7. Be organised with the ability to work with both speed and accuracy.
8. Bring excellent communication skills to maintain good relationships with our range of internal clients and ensure communication between the design studio and print unit on planned works, timelines and completed artworks.
We work to ensure everyone can explore, be energised by and see themselves in the V&A, because difference fuels creativity and the V&A belongs to us all.
The V&A is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome and encourage job applications from people of all backgrounds and would particularly welcome applicants from currently under-represented groups, people with disabilities and people who identify as LGBTQIA+.
The V&A offers a range of employee benefits including 29 days annual leave, pension, an interest free season ticket or bicycle loan is available after three months. Free entrance to all the major museums and exhibitions in London as well as many others. Subsidised staff restaurant and discounts in V&A shops.
