Marketing and Communications Assistant
Job Description
Universal Design Studio and Map Project Office are seeking a Marketing and Communications Assistant.
The Marketing and Communications Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of an ongoing communications and marketing strategy. Our outlook has an international focus given the global portfolio of both studios so candidates can expect a varied and busy role.
As a part of the WPP group, there will also be a focus on internal communications and promoting the work of Universal and Map via internal editorial, social and marketing channels – liaising with WPP and AKQA teams on a monthly basis.
Day-to-day tasks will include helping to shape the studio narrative externally via press liaison and marketing outputs such as our newsletters to assisting with the running of social media channels and the studio websites. This role will also involve supporting marketing events in the UK and in due course internationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Contributing the full PR cycle for projects. From working alongside the team to develop strategy and narratives, reaching out to press and assisting on events
- Regular press outreach for Universal and Map, timed to project launches as well as forward features and thought-leadership pitching
- Building relationships with journalists through regular media briefings, with UK and international press (digitally)
- Copywriting for web, press assets, marketing outputs and social channels
- Day-to-day running of social media accounts with the support and guidance of the Marketing Manager
- Manage and implement awards calendar and awards submissions
- Assisting with the commissioning of photographers and filmmakers when needed and providing support on-location
- Working closely with the team on events, speaking opportunities and industry events
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
The Marketing and Communications Assistant role is part of an in-house team at Universal and Map. The successful candidate will be provided with ongoing support and training.
- A genuine enthusiasm for the design industry – architecture, interior and industrial design
- An interest in the evolving media landscape in both print and digital
- Clear communicator
- The ability to work self-led as well as part of a team
- Detail oriented behaviour
- An interest in social media and familiarity with different platforms and social landscape
Essential Experience
- 1 - 2 Years working in a creative environment (specific experience across communications and/or marketing desirable but not essential)
- Proficient in MS Office, Keynote, G-Suite
Desirable Experience
- Copywriting (blog posts, press releases or marketing materials)
- Prior experience of running or contributing to social media accounts
- Prior use of media and digital analysis tools
- Press relationships
- Adobe Suite
- Website management via WordPress or similar

Salary: negotiable and dependent upon experience and skills
Hybrid working: Following the safe reopening of our studio, employees have the flexibility to work a mix of in the studio and at home, working a minimum of 3 days in the studio and up to 2 days from home. Monday and Wednesday being anchor days, where everyone comes into the studio.
