Job Description
Role
Jealous seeks a Gallery Assistant to join our friendly team at our art gallery based in Shoreditch. We are looking for an energetic candidate with a passion for the arts, who is keen to work with the public and in an administrative capacity. The successful candidate will be working alongside and supporting the gallery team. You must be friendly and professional, comfortable working within a small team, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills as well good written communication, be highly organised and be able to prioritise tasks, have an excellent telephone manner and work in a composed manner under pressure.
The role requires an individual to be a fast-working self-starter, who can be left to complete tasks to a high standard unsupervised.
About You
Essential qualities include:
- Excellent customer service skills in-person, over the phone and email
- At least 1 years’ experience of working in a customer/client facing role
- A passion and knowledge for contemporary art
- Administration skills, including experience working with Outlook, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- A pro-active self-starter with a practical and flexible approach
- Proven experience using Adobe Photoshop is a must
- Knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook)
- Proven ability to multitask in a high-pressure environment
- Strong organisation skills
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and schedules without compromise of quality
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including writing with a strong attention to detail
Desirable:
- A knowledge of print, editions, and printmaking techniques
- Experience of writing and posting to social media
- Working knowledge of IT packages relevant to the role e.g. Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Illustrator), CRM databases, Microsoft packages.
- Copywriting skills
- Experience working at art fairs
- Experience with art database systems
- Installation experience
- Experience handling printed materials and art packing
- Knowledge of art framing
Duties and Responsibilities
Customer service
- Welcoming clients and customers into the gallery, answering inquiries and providing information about the artworks
- Answering all phone calls and assisting with enquiries
- Taking customer orders for purchase of prints and framing
- Making and processing sales, both in person at the gallery, over the phone and online
Administrative tasks
- Updating orders using in-house systems (Orderwise, Shopify, Google Sheets)
- Updating social media accounts
- Writing promotional material connected to exhibitions, art fairs and external events
- Packing, shipping orders and organising deliveries (FedEx, UPS)
- Transporting, installing and organising artwork for display and storage
General support
- Daily operations of the gallery, ensuring that it operates smoothly, efficiently, and in accordance with established policies and procedures
- General maintenance, cleaning and tidying of the gallery and storage areas
- Assisting with art fairs and private views as and when needed (travel and overtime may be required)
Conditions of Work
Contract: permanent
Salary: £24-25k (dependent on experience)
Hours of Work: Full Time, Tues-Sat 10:00am – 6:00pm, with half an hour for lunch
The period of notice is 1 months in writing on either side
Probation period: 3 months
Due to the nature of the job, some early morning, evening and weekend work will be required, as well as as well as occasional travel. This will be compensated in overtime pay.
On rare occasions, you may be asked to work at our sister company site in Tottenham, where our framing company is based
