Digital Designer (Oxford, UK - initially remote)
Job Description
We are looking for a talented and passionate visual designer - junior or midweight - to guide and complement the outstanding UX our team delivers. How long you've been doing it is less important to us than how well you apply yourself. You may be a junior or a mid weight, but your portfolio speaks of both sensitive and bold design. You love creating brands, digital interfaces, and have dabbled in some print; you can't stop yourself designing, you're a true fanatic!
You will join our Creative Chapter which includes the UX and Front End Developers. You will learn digital UX with our lead UX designer, as well as explore user research and how best to translate a UX concept into an elegant user interface. They have fortnightly chapter meetings to explore trends, critique each other's work, and find ways to improve the transition of our clients' projects from idea to reality.
Global Initiative is Oxford's leading digital agency, and we're still growing. If you are interested in joining a well respected team, producing exciting solutions, and leveraging our success to help Tech for Good, then this might just be the perfect place for you.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Involvement in designing brands, websites, web- and mobile-based interfaces, as well as some printed collateral
- Taking creative briefs from clients and translating them into visual concepts
- Pitching your ideas to external and internal stakeholders
- Helping critique existing solutions and propose ways to improve them
- Translating UI concepts into Zeplin and support the front end developers
You will have:
- A qualification in design
- Good knowledge of Adobe products
- A portfolio you are proud to show off
- Passion for all things design
- Experience designing logos, typography, and layouts for digital media (and possibly print)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- An understsanding or and ambition to learn digital UX
Nice to haves:
- A couple of years' experience in industry
- Experience working in an agency or consultancy
- Experience pitching ideas to clients and internal stakeholders
- Working with a multi disciplinary team
- Exploring user experience tools and research
- Experience in agile methodologies
- Face to face time with clients
Things to make you even happier:
- Remote initially, then hybrid working home / office in Oxford
- Part time may be considered
- Very competitive salaries (depending on experience)
- Macbook pro or laptop PC with the latest Adobe Suite
- A budget for hardware, software, and accessories
- Tax-free bike scheme (through Cycle to Work)
- 5 days paid sick leave
- 4% matched company pension scheme
- Cash health plan
Wait, you don't think you're right for *this* role but have a burning passion for all things digital? Then you should be in touch and tell us what we're missing out on!
