About On the Edge

On the Edge is a not-for-profit media and conservation organisation that helps people reconnect with nature through original pop culture content. Although we produce games, films and TV series, this position will focus on our digital channels.

Based in London, we are proud of our small, fast-growing and talented team drawn from the worlds of media, creative industries, science and conservation, who are united by their passion for nature and creating positive change on Planet Earth.

Role Overview and Key Responsibilities:

This role will help On the Edge deliver 2 key, but very fun and creative illustration projects.

Project 1 – Social series on how humans can all help pollinators this summer. We are looking to create a set of 5 illustrations (or mixed/multimedia assets) that help people understand what they can do to support bees, bugs and other pollinators throughout the summer. The illustrations will be used across social media (Instagram, TikTok, WeAre8) and may be animated in house by our motion graphics expert.

For this project you will need to:

  • Attend the ideation and briefing session (will be one of your working days)
  • Work with the talent, social media and natural histories teams to define output
  • Provide initial scamps for review
  • Agree on final direction and implement feedback from digital and design teams
  • Produce the deliverables (final assets and working files)

Project 2 – Help us develop a set of illustrations for elements of the website. We are relaunching our website in the near future and we wish to include some simple illustrative elements to help our home page pop! For this project you will be required to:

Attend the ideation and briefing session to define output.

Produce a set of 6 header mixed media images. We intend to use existing photography and apply 2/3 illustrative elements (doodles, cartoons, textures, animals) to each header.

We also wish to explore a set of illustrative ‘evergreen’ nature elements that we can use across the website e.g. animal eyes, plants, weather, feathers, scales, flock of birds.

We are looking for someone who can work within (and bend) our brand guidelines to create eye-catching, playful visuals and help us to tell stories in memorable and captivating ways.

There will be plenty of scope to develop your skills and learn from colleagues across all departments.

The role requires someone imaginative, passionate and adaptable with excellent attention to detail who enjoys being part of a team. You should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be able to deliver in short deadlines. This role is all about helping On the Edge to tell meaningful stories on social channels, and have some more fun with our website.

On the Edge will own all deliverables and will be able to exploit as required for defined and future projects.

Essential:

  • Showcase an understanding of layout
  • Strong illustrative style that appeals to Gen Z
  • High-level knowledge of digital illustration
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, generating strong creative work
  • Excellent attention to detail and to be able to deliver to deadlines in a fast paced reactive environment

  • Passion for your craft
  • A portfolio of digital illustration work used across social or web to support your application
  • Experience working in the creative industry
  • Interest in the natural world, biodiversity and conservation
