Freelance Creative Artworker
Job Description
We are looking for a Freelance Creative Artworker to join our wider studio team on a flexible basis.
Barlow & Co. is an award-winning branding and design agency, specialising in wine and drinks packaging. Our clients range from great to small, including UK & International brands, wineries, supermarkets and wine importers. The studio is based in Chiswick, London W4.
We are currently looking for technical-based designers / artworkers to support the creative team, championing excellence in digital and print-ready artwork; delivering work correctly and consistently for our different clients’ and studio needs.
The position can be based remotely.
THE ROLE IN DETAIL:
You will be expected to:
- take responsibility for finalising design files and preparing them for supplier production.
- produce accurate artwork and support files for a variety of packaging and print-related processes.
- ensure all colour management and related proofing material is accurate and suitable for target and matching purposes.
- ensure consistency and accuracy in layout, type and spacing; fixing and/or refining where relevant.
- manage timings to meet specified deadlines (and to budget).
- work both with the team, and independently, to maintain and develop best practice in product realisation.
You may also be required to produce or re-touch design visuals and mock-ups.

This is a key role within our team and requires the highest level of attention to detail, responsibility and professionalism. As well as a passion for all things design, print and packaging.
We are looking for someone who is hard working, confident and accurate in what they do. Though you are likely to work quite independently, it’s important that you enjoy working with and contributing to the wider team; pro-active and collaborative in your approach. And always eager to learn more!
Skills and Experience:
- You must have 2-3 years’ minimum experience as a creative artworker within a design agency, repro or print environment.
- Have a good understanding of print processes e.g. flexo, litho and digital. As well as print finishes such as varnishes, foils and embossing.
- Have a solid understanding of layout and typographic principals, fonts, colour systems and building brand guidelines.
- Methodical / process-minded with a creative flair. You easily follow instruction and enjoy using check lists.
- Are able to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and to tight deadlines. Bringing excellent organisation and time management to your work.
- Can use Adobe CS (specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat)
