Job Description

Overview:

As a Creative Technologist you will be the intersection between Creative, design, and Production. Sitting within the Creative department you will be involved in conceptual development all the way to implementation. Whether that be guiding the production with an external partner, or coding the digital implementation yourself, you should be comfortable getting the idea over the finish line in the most appropriate way possible.

Why Mother?

Mother is a destination for creative minds, everyone at Mother helps make the creative product as brilliant as it can be.

Creative Technology is an expanding discipline at Mother and has already resulted in some of the biggest work launched this year. Whether that’s launching IKEA’s first Roblox experience, or creating a music video filmed entirely with public CCTV IP cameras, it’s always interesting and this is your chance to be an early part of a growing team.

About you:

We are looking for a Maker, someone who generally enjoys creating digital products that get people excited to talk about. Naturally that means:

Technology Skillset-

  • As most ideas will need some sort of web component, at minimum we would need you to be comfortable with Full-Stack Web Development to the point where you will be able to handle a build from start to finish, back-end work, data-handling and a performant front-end. We are a technology agnostic team, but at the moment our web stack usually looks like the below:
  • Serverless architecture - Lambda functions, AWS, Netlify, edge computing etc.
  • React - We use React, but if you’re more comfortable with a different JS framework such as Angular, then that’s fine.
  • Database technologies - We use MongoDB and other NoSQL technologies, but if you get DB principles and general data modelling, then great!
  • User Authentication - This can be through a SaaS such as auth0, but knowledge on how to do basic user authentication would be needed. Preferably best practices around JWTs etc.

That’s the web stuff, but being a Maker we are looking for people who are naturally curious about other technologies; one of the below would be a great to have-

  • 3D Modelling - Experience in creating 3D models for use in games, web experiences, AR / VR / XR would be great. Rigging for animation & interactivity in the above, or even 3D modelling for 3D printing would be a plus.
  • Game Engines - Have you created anything in Unity or Unreal? This can be a game, an AR / VR / XR experience, or a live stream production.
  • PCB Prototyping / Hardware - Experience in microcontrollers, prototyping boards, electronics. This can be anywhere from simple prototyping up to experience in PCB design for small batch manufacturing.
  • Native Application Development - Experience with Mobile App development, whether that’s Swift, Java etc. or something like React Native is a plus. Or could be a Windows / macOS app, again can be a cross-platform SDK or true native.
  • ANYTHING ELSE - Being Creative Technology, sometimes the things you build don’t fall into any of these categories. Maybe you built something that straddles conventional definition but was displayed dynamically on a DooH placement. Come tell us about it!
