📣 About the role
The hunt for a Head of Design role at Rotate° involves finding the right person to lead, manage, and grow our small (but mighty) design team…. Ultimately to take the Design offering to the next level at Rotate°.
You will help cultivate and improve our internal design processes for the team and be a key contributor to our partners product strategy, providing guidance on output and facilitating collaboration.
The Head of Design will have a broad oversight of our creative output, lead in Discovery and Vision phases and understand the minutiae of our workflows. You’ll support multiple projects to completion, providing the resources and even-keeled management your team needs to consistently deliver best-in-class work.
As Head of Design you’ll also function as the creative point person for our partners, ensuring a healthy relationship with frequent updates and team collaboration (Tech x Creative x Product) to create beautiful and effective experiences.
👀 Essential skills
- At least 2 years experience in a similar (Head of Design) role.
- 7+ years of agency experience in digital design with tonnes of eCommerce projects, working from research all the way through to delivery.
- Experience managing and mentoring designers.
- Experience working in an Agile methodology and working in cross-functional teams.
- Ability to lead a workshop(s) to extract information from decision makers, articulate and communicate into a strategic vision, then seamlessly zoom into small but important details for the delivery team.
- Experience working with research and data to drive decision making.
- Able to get your hands dirty and help the team and our clients achieve the desired outcomes, setting the standard along the way.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentational, and interpersonal communication skills. An eye for detail is a must.
- Management skills to mentor, supervise and skills to nurture a culture of collaboration and improvement amongst the Design department.
- A self-starter able to identify and make the most of opportunities, overcome and learn from setbacks, and succeed in a variety of settings.
- Open to, and reacts well to, feedback and looks for opportunities to improve how to work well together within the team.
🤝 Responsibilities
- Balance creativity and – often in conflict to – convention of our Design output.
- Line management of creative team, including the resourcing of the projects they are scheduled on.
- Guiding the design team to follow best-practice (or know when to break it), internal processes and push for industry-setting innovations.
- You will be part of the Leadership team at Rotate°, with department OKRs. You will have the autonomy and accountability to meet those as you see fit.
- Tactical initiatives to grow and improve the Design department and offering.
- Supervising delivery on the design lifecycle from concept to delivery across a project portfolio, ensuring the outcome is of the best design quality with input from user insights, analytics, brand and validated through testing.
- Be an advocate for users, whether they are members, prospect or colleagues, and inform decisions and design direction through user research.
- Collaborate with other disciplines within the business; Design, Engineering and Product all in harmony to provide more holistic, more considered solutions.
- Stay up-to-date with digital and market trends to adapt ways of working and influence design and digital direction.
- Understand best practices in Design Thinking and User Experience approaches and how to apply them.
- A solid understanding and passion for detailed interaction and information design.
- Use tools such as Figma/FigJam, Pitch and analytics tools such as Google Analytics and MS Clarity.
